From 1996 through 2004, archaeologists affiliated with the Cincinnati Museum Center have undertaken volunteer-based excavations at several Middle Woodland sites to recover vital information about the nature and organization of Hopewell earthwork complexes.  Faced with intense development pressures, large-scale site destruction, and limited resources, we have had to make many decisions about where to dig, how to dig, and what kinds of material information to recover. This presentation discusses our field and research strategies in light of research questions and resource limitations.
