Riding a Cash Cow: Notes and Observations on Several Large-Scale CRM Projects in South-Central Ohio
Matthew P. Purtill, Gray & Pape, Inc.
Recently, Gray & Pape, Inc. has conducted several large-scale CRM projects along the Ohio River in Lawrence and Scioto counties, Ohio. The well-funded nature of these projects allowed researchers to conduct controlled investigations (survey through mitigation) on over 80 archaeological sites in a variety of river terrace settings. Collectively, these projects have yielded over 43,000 artifacts, excavated/analyzed over 150 features, helped reconstruct the landscape history of the valley, and processed over 30 absolute dates for the region. Such a unique data-set provides an opportunity to address several culture-history questions for southern Ohio and beyond. The presentation provided a brief overview of key project findings.
